Ceramiche Refin

The new Kasai collection that Ceramiche Refin will present at Cersaie 2017 is inspired by Yakisugi, the traditional Japanese method of woodworking through burning.

Kasai, “fire” in Japanese, is the result of a study of Shou Sugi Ban, or Yakisugi, an artisanal technique that has been in use for centuries in Japan using fire to carbonise cedar wood in order to protect and conserve it. The burning of the slats also creates a particular crazing effect on the wooden surface that gives the material an exclusive style.

While this work has been replaced by more modern techniques and materials, in recent years there has been a return of burnt wood, used in architecture not only in Japan but also internationally as a distinguishing element of many projects.

With Kasai, Ceramiche Refin honours Japanese design culture, expressing on porcelain stoneware the same visual and tactile characteristics of traditional burnt wooden slats in a refined and elegant ceramic collection, perfect for interior projects that want to celebrate the meeting of different cultures and the mix of tradition and innovation.

Kasai will be one of the new ceramic lines that Refin will present at Cersaie 2017, all the result of the company’s extensive research, inspired by natural materials like stones and woods, as well as contemporary surfaces typical of industrial and urban environments. Thanks to the use of state-of-the-art production technologies, Refin has been able to develop a wide range of creative ideas to develop many new designs dedicated to the world of interior design.
